Advice needed agreed to buy a ipad from amazon, order was cancelled but still charged

Hi I wonder if any one can help me, Last night I agreed to buy a ipad from Amazon from a seller on market place this morning I recieved a email to say that order had been cancelled as seller can not accept payments at the moment. The email stated that I had not been charged, I logged in to my bank account to check and had not been charged So I went back on to amazon.co.uk this morning and agreed to buy a ipad from some one else on amazon market place. Half an hour later I received a email to say this seller had cancelled order but to not worry as my card had not been charged. I logged in to my amazon account to check and sure enough the order for ipad had disappeared from my account completely. I contacted the seller to ask why they had cancelled order as they were still advertising it and hadn't removed item from sale. I then thought I had better check my bank account again. So I logged in to online banking to find that Amazon had taken the money for ipad from my bank account this time even though they said in email that they had not charged my card. I have contacted Amazon but have so far got no where they are denying charging my card for ipad or taking money from my account. The seller got back to me and some thing seems really strange they won't tell me why they cancelled order but just keep asking to contact them via email out side amazon. What should I do now. I am now at the moment out of pocket by over £400. What should I do next what are my option for getting my money back. contact amazon again contact my bank, etc.

  • I have just spoken to some one from amazon on the phone they were very un helpful, I tried to explain what had happened. They first said the order had been cancelled because the seller was out of stock this is absolute rubbish, if this is so why is the seller still listing the ipad for sale on amazon and why are they trying to get me to comunicate with them out side amazon. They then insisted that they had not charged my card. When I argued and told them they had charged my card and that the money had come out of my account. they came up with the excuse that they contacted my bank for pre autherisation and that is why its showing on my bank account. and that they can't cancel pre autherisation and that I will have to waite 7 -14 days and the bank will cancel it and will put the money back in my account. This seems rediculous to me. If it was a pre autherisation would it show the actual transaction on my online banking statement. There is no way im going to wait for 7 - 14 days for my money its rediculous

the person from amazon that I spoke to then said if I wasnt happy I should contact my bank and that perhaps they cound cancel the pre autherisation sooner. I tried phoning my bank and they told me to ring back on monday as the office I need to speak to is closed. what should I do im so upset and worried. What do you think are they right about the pre autherisation would it still show as a transaction on my bank statement. and does it take 7 - 14 days to cancel.

Whenever you buy they put a authorisation through to secure the funds for the purchase. This is taken off your available balance. When the item is dispatched they then complete the authorisation and take the reserved funds.

If for some reason the purchase doesn't complete these reserved funds will go back to your available balance after so many days when the authorisation expires.
  • if thats the case why did they not do this with the first ipad I ordered that was then cancelled it makes no sence
  • People in glass houses shouldn't throw bricks, its CANCELLED NOT CANCELED unless your are an AMERICAN?
  • Whats with the American bashing? Anyway, I'm sorry to say your only choices are to wait the two weeks or call your bank.

"you are" or "you're" not "your are"

Americans spell "cancelled" as "canceled". Nothing to do with American bashing

Why do some people on these boards have to be so pedantic, critical, and unhelpful?

The poster has a worrying problem and asked for help, not a spelling lesson!

I am sure you understood what was being asked which was to do with a banking issue - I can't see anywhere in the OP's post where they are asking us to correct their spelling and grammar (or did I miss that bit?)
;) If you think you are too small to make a difference, try getting in bed with a mosquito!
  • can any one give me some proper advice. Not a spelling lesson. I appologise if my spelling is not good we are not all good at every thing. Any way I still have got no where. I spoke to my bank yesterday as this transaction had bought up a alert on my card and a stop was put on my card. I explained the situation to the person I spoke to from my bank. and they said they would see what they could do and would remove the stop from my card so I can use it again. I have checked my bank account online this morning and still the money has not been put back in to my account. So I am still out of pocket by over £400. I will contact amazon again to complain, but I don't hold out much hope that they will do any thing. I guess legal action is probably my next step.
What should I do. I mean we are not talking about a small amount of money we are talking alot of money. What would you do in my situation

any advice would be much appreciated

    thanks in advance

Hi Teddybear, i think that Amazon deals with the money not the amazon market place sellers - as i understand it Amazon pays the market place sellers.. i could be wrong though..? So your money is 'safe' even if you don't have it if you see what i mean? If you post your question on the ebay/amazon thread you may get a more helpful answer? Sorry I can't be much help, hope you get it sorted soon.
