Have left it a bit late to book for the panto this year (again) - however we can get seats for the date we want in the God's!
The box office are not very enthusiastic in selling them to me - just wondering what anyone else's opinion is on taking kids to sit here ?? (6,8,11)

  • Hi, we nearly always go for the Gods as the prices are so much cheaper. I took my kids the year before last and they were 6, 8 and 10. I think they are probably trying to discourage you from sitting here as it is quite steep, but view is fine and I would not hesitate in sitting here. hth

Thanks julie - heights dont bother us - just worried wouldnt get benefit of the show being at a high angle.
Works out at £50 for the 5 of us - probably about half of what we would pay for the stalls.

  • Hi

I'm not trying to hyjack the thread. But I am thinking of taking my then 5 years olds to see cinderella in ballet on February 5 2011. Which are the best seats especially seeing that the kids arn't that tall. Many thanks in advance.

mollypolly - i have been in opera house and sat in the 5th/6th row which was fab but it is a particular date I need this year for the panto and have left it too late to get anything but the God's!!
The box office staff will advise you best seats - or rather best seats available - as Julie says they are probably off putting about Gods due to the height!!

I really wish the GOH wouldn't call the Gallery the Gods - it's really stupid and pretentious.

I think its just a traditional thing in most old theatres - not meant to offend anyone.

I sat in this area once. Never again. The kids couldn't see anything unless they leaned right forward and I spent the whole time with my heart in my mouth as the balcony bit was fairly low (I assume to help the view) and I was convinced they were going to go over it.

I daresay some theatres are worse than others though.

What's stupid and pretentious about it? It's a theatre term that has been used for hundreds of years, in many parts of the world, for the upper balcony seating.

I'm perfectly aware that it is a theatre term, but it sounds a bit silly to use it as an official name for part of a theatre whilst retaining the conventional names for the other areas.
  • Hi BOBS
I hope you go ahead and book the gods - as long as you are aware that they are high up - and you wont have the same view there is nothing wrong with the seats - you can see and hear things perfectly well - and I am sure the kiddies will hardly notice!
