just rang up today for my appointment - the one who answered the phone had never heard of will aid and had to check, but i have the appointment and no money was mentioned.
think i wil make the donation through the website and just take the receipt with me, then its done and dusted and they cant ask for it there.
  • My dad went for his appointment last week. The lawyer said that she wouldnt charge as much as £75 for a simple will and suggested that a £50 donation would be more reasonable.

Will Aid is running again November 2008. If you need to make your Will and would rather donate to charity than pay a solicitor, then this is the scheme for you.
To find a participating solicitor near you and lots of information on writing your Will visit www.willaid.org.uk (all you have to do is put in your postcode and a list of solicitors in your area will appear immediately) or phone the hotline 0300 0300 013 and they will send you an information pack and a list of solicitors.
Will Aid solicitors write basic Wills without charging their normal fee during November. Instead they hope their clients will donate to the Will Aid charities the fee they would normally charge. As a guide, the suggested donation is £75 for a single Will, £110 for a pair of matching or "mirror" Wills or £40 for a codicil or change to an existing Will. The solicitors don't keep any of the money - it all goes to the Will Aid charities and because this is a donation, there is no VAT.
Please note that due to changes in the Inheritance Tax threshold many more people will now find that a basic Will is all they need.
The scheme is open to adults of any age but solicitors may limit the numbers of Wills they make under the scheme so make an appointment as soon as you can.
