Still never come across a car that the manual states "allow dash lights to go out." Only old diesels with heaters. You might want to waste money buying a new battery, but as I said I squeeze all the life out of mine. That's my preference.
A worn battery will be playing silly !!!!!!s with the alternator, which will be using more fuel to charge

In other words you have come across them. And others as I said have peculiarities on start up proceedure. And others I just allow the ECU to boot up anyway, which I consider good practice.benham3160 wrote: »Still never come across a car that the manual states "allow dash lights to go out." Alternator current is only increased at low revs which is partly why the manuals say to drive off as soon as you are started, and only significantly increased (at this point) if the battery charge is very low, and if it were very low it would be unlikely to start the car. At higher revs the alternator is in a sustained mode despite the battery condition. Besides which I check my battery charge and charging system regularly.0 -

Have to agree with Benham on this one, trying to squeeze the last penny out of an old battery is false economy, sooner or latter it will catch you out. OK the AA and RAC drains will accept this but not me.
The modern ecu takes alot out of the hands of the driver, including this issue.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0
