Travel insurance

Hi, I'm new to this site and would really appreciate some help with this matter.
My daughter went abroad in July and purchased some travel insurance which was obviously in her name.
Unfortunately, while there, she had her purse and some english money stolen from her bag whilst in a nightclub.
Once back, all the relevant info was forwarded on to the insurance company.
The company are requesting that my daughter forward details of my home insurance. When I asked them ,why did they require my details, they said it was because my daughter lived at home with me and that travel insurance companies can ask my home insurance company for a contribution towards this claim. Obviously, as I've checked, my insurance premium will almost probably be increased when I come to renew my policy.
This seems very unfair, as I am being penalised by having to pay a higher premium on renewal of my home policy for a holiday that had nothing to do with me.
Please help!

This is standard. Travel Insurers will always seek a contribution from any other Insurance, that would provide cover. If you have personal possessions to cover items away from home, then your Home Insurers will make a contribution. And yes this will affect your future premiums a little.
If you don't want the Travel Insurers to do this, then your daughter will have to accept not proceeding with the claim through the Travel Insurers.
I don't think too many people realise this and like you they are a little annoyed by it. But you cannot do much, as the conditons of the Travel Insurance, will make any claim conditional on them being able to seek a contribution, where other cover exists. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -
I was warned about this exact scenario by my broker when I took out my travel insurance. There are lots of people who are not aware of this. It is the same with all insurances these days. If anyone can spread the liabilty they will.
Another thing to note is that if you proceed your daughter/you will probably end up paying the excess on both policies too.
I now have a travel insurance (with Fortis) that just covers me for all things (cancellation, illness, accident, repatriation etc) but not my personal belongings (which are covered on my home contents insurance).
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.adde parvum parvo magnus acervus erit
Add a little to a little and there will be a great heap
