Seller terms - fair?

  • you can sell as a set it wouldn't be a problem, you will need to make sure every single piece is wrapped sepperatly in thick layers of bubble wrap (it really does the job) and then pack in a thick carboard box with peanuts. You will have to factor the cost of the packaging into the listing.
It's going to result in the same amount of packaging time either way. I would probably think as a job lot you'd find it easier to have just one auction and one box but i'd research correct insurance for something of that value as i think certain couriers don't 'do' crockery.
I have managed to send many breakable items to australia and all got there fine. They seem to like the collectable china etc.

The goods are BIN so surely DSR should apply (which includes refund of original postage).

If this is a "powerseller" then they are a business, so yes, they should apply.

TRS/powersellers only have to sell a certain volume and maintain a certain level of feedback quality and good DSRatings; they aren't any more scrutinised by eBay and/or Paypal than your average Joe Schmoe trying to sell his old tat, so they can get away with the terms they like; only you can protect yourself while buying and this is where I would start reading their feedback to get an idea of whether they mean what they say or whether they handle problems better than they seem to.

If this is a TRS and they don't have too many negs for items arriving broken, and this is the item you desperately want as a OOAK piece, then go ahead and buy; you are covered by Paypal in the event of a loss or damage but they may just have copied that from someone else as per usual and be hiding a pleasant and courteous demeanour towards customers with a problem behind crappy, illegal terms. I wouldn't personally buy from them, but I have in the past bought non-breakable things (Advanced Dungeons and Dragons OOP role-playing books) from someone with the most aggressive, horrible terms ever but someone whose service in general was top-rate and professional anyway. I try not to make a habit of patronising people like that as they are the scourge of eBay, but sometimes I know you've GOT to have that book or tea set or jug or whatever and Paypal, if not the small claims court for enforcing the DSRs, covers you if everything goes belly-up.

As far as selling, you want to be ahead of the game, so encouraging people to bid with welcoming terms, a good refund or return policy, and demonstrating super packaging skills is an absolute must. You may find postal sales just a little bit too daunting, so although the fees are pretty high, I would be suggesting you take a look at an offline auction house, or antiques dealership (although they would pay dealer rates rather than retail prices), rather than eBay.

Good luck and I hope you get a good amount for it - Denby is sought after and you might have a real treasure.
