Car Insurance - HELP

Morning,

I have a family member who has got themself in some bother and I feel so helpless and wondered if anyone could make some suggestions.

Situation is as follows:

Saturday 28th August they got pulled over (thinking it was stop and check), but was actually done for no insurance. This family member as 6 points already so should this go to court they would most likely lose their license for 6-12 months and get a penalty fine.

Anyway being in a complete sate of shock due to believing they had a Sainsbury policy they were straight on the phone asking why their insurance hadnt shown up?

The story begins a few months back as initally their insurance was with another company which went bust so after discovering this went with Sainsbury declaring they had X amount of no claims covers. Sainsbury took a policy out but I think they had to try track them down within a certain period. When Sainsbury were unsuccessful they deemed the policy as invalid and wrote a letter on the 12 Aug saying so. The Policy holder called them and then was agreed by both parties another policy was taken out (17 aug)

Then the police incident happened, when speaking to Sainsbury initially they took full responsibility but would need to speak to E sure who their insurance comes through. Many conversations later and also getting phone records from phone providers they were still saying the same thing.

3 sept... money is refunded back into the account and a conversation a second policy should no of been distributed - training issue on Sainsburys part.

Today a letter turned up saying that my family are at fault.

I dont know what to make of this situation, I fear for my family member but then perhaps Sainsbury are right.... can anyone help me?

thanks

Chants x

If Sainsburys accepted the other 6 points, they can't then turn around and say 'sorry we made a mistake' and here is your money back.

If your family member gave accurate information to Sainsburys Insurance handlers, then they should make a formal complaint in writing to them. The address for complaints is noted in the policy wording.

  • Yeah they stated what had happened and surely these companies write "notes" on customers accounts of history etc.

It just seems a little under handed how after the incident happened they then refund the money and send a letter contradicting themselves!

When you call them they sometimes say "we record conversations for training purposes", as a customer can you request to see if they have voice recordings of any of yur conversations?

Although they may try to charge you for this!!

I found this out when I was in a dispute with BT, although the lady I was speaking with agreed about what I had said on a previous phonecall, she said if I wanted proof of that they would charge me £15 for the privelege!!

You just make the request for all information including recordings of all your phone calls, as a Subject Access Request under Data Protector. The most that they can charge for this is £10.
