homebase faulty tiles

I bought £350 worth of solid marble floor tiles for my bathroom about a year ago. we were due to have an extension built and they were for the new bathroom.

we had numerous problems with the build and builder.

my dad ended up having to lay the floor tiles only last month. when we opened the boxes more than half were faulty with cracks in the back, some crumbled in our hands and the ones that seems alright my dad laid. we ended up having to buy some more packs, however homebase have discontinued these tiles and they were reduced from £35 a box to £5!

Some tiles have now cracked on the floor and my bathroom looks awful, i wrote to head office complaining about them. They sent me a letter today saying that I had 28 days to check them and return them to store if faulty, they then said if i send in my receipts for the full price ones i bough they would offer me a goodwill refund. I have looked everywhere and cant find the original receipts does this mean i dont have a leg to stand on? Also is it right that the reduced tiles were sold as seen even though the reduced sticker said discountineed stock

Thanks

  • did you pay with a card or anything for the new one s you bought? If so this should act as a proof of purchase(though it may not) Im not sure where you would stand after having the other tiles for over a year and not laying them though - as you said you have had problems with the builders and such like so they could claim that they were broken whilst this was happening..

  • They've offered a refund - what else would you like them to do?

You'd need a receipt or some form of proof of purchase ie bank statement for any kind of legal action I'm afraid,

Money today if you read the ops post they stated that there asking for receipt for a refund.
