Warranty - Dealership - advice needed please

In March I bought a car 2005 Vauxhall, 12 months warranty, 30.000 miles ex mobility car. This was brought from the dealership.
Early August I was only 3/4 hr into my journey when the engine stopped. I had the car checked before leaving home, water was fine, oil etc.
There was steam coming from the bonnet when I opened it and it looked like a loss of water.
Called breakdown service, when he arrived he looked at the car and said, the water reservoir was empty and then went on to say the hose leading from it (it went around behind something (?) ) the end of that hose had popped off, causing loss of water.
He showed me the jublie clip that should have been attached to that end to hold it in place. The clip was half way down the hose and looked like it had been like that for quite some time, given the indentation it had caused on the hose.
I was told by the workshop that the cylindar head had cracked, I mentioned the hose and clip only to be told, 'it doesn't matter where the clip was placed'
Well correct me if I'm wrong, but surely if the clip had been put on correctly in the first place, the hose would not have popped off?
It's been over 6 weeks since this happened. I was told yesterday that my car might not be ready until the end of next week! and also that they found 2 other problems (not sure what)
My warranty covers up to £600, well of course the repairs will come to way above that.
So I am hoping that the dealership will do the right thing in my mind and cover any costs above the warranty.

Apparently the car was fully serviced prior to it being signed over to me.

  • 99% of motability cars are on a 3 year lease - this car seems to have been in limbo for quite a long time!

    2010 - 3 = 2007.

I wish you luck. Start gathering all your paper work and be ready in case they try to wriggle out of this.

I would have thought it is clearly negligent of them but they might say they checked all the hoses and you have taken it off themselves.

My one point would be you must have driven it for sometime after the water had drained out and they could (with possibly a little justification) claim you were not observant to notice the warning lights/gauges and didn't mitigate your loss.

My ex-wife did this to a car and drove it for so long the plastic engine cover had melted needless to say the engine was terminally dead.

Thank you for your reply. The temp gauge wasn't showing red as they normally do, due to overheating. That would have been the first indication of temp going up.
