Student Accomodation

Today student(2nd year) has moved into private rented accomodation(uni managed though) and I was appalled at the state of it.
Don't get me wrong, I know students' reputations, I know that basic accomodation only is given but it was filthy.
Went through the inventory and it was so way of the mark it was unreal especially regards things like the suite-it's condition was annotated as good-every one of the seat pads was either torn/come away at the seams, oven was described as good-grease was hanging off it like icicles etc(you get the picture)Obviously all this has been annotated on the inventory(so disgusted that I actually took photos of it all)
What I would like to know from you good people is-Is that the generally accepted standard?
Yes I know, a hovering parent!! DD will deal with it but I am going to be giving her some guidance.

not really what i'd call ok..... they should make sure it is at least clean when they move in....
realistically, they won't do much about it right now though - but a 'care package' of industrial cleaners and strong rubber gloves may help:happyhear0 -
My daughter (1st year) last year moved into university student accommodation and it was terrible. I and her boyfriend scrubbed one of the fridges, the toaster and kettle was only fit for the rubbish tip. We did buy a cheap toaster but she never has hot drinks so she wasn't bothered about a kettle. I did contact someone at the university and complain and they did replace the kettle. Not at all what i expected.2013

No wonder students get a bad rep re cleaning etc. Where is their incentive when what they are handed is bacially a pig-sty!0

From my experience, university managed rented accomodation is generally filthy. No one at my uni who used this kind of property was impressed with the state it was in, or the "management" offered by the university - both my household, and a friends, were without working boilers during the winter months, and the uni only graded it as a 3 on their repair scale - meaning they could take up to 4 weeks to repair it! 4 weeks, in late October/early November, without heating or hot water. Obviously non-essential... There were various other problems, but they were all in an absolutely filthy state when we moved in in the September, and then we all got fined at the end of our tenancies to cover cleaning, which never happened (friends of ours moved into the property that I'd left)! The privately managed property we moved into during our final year was fantastic - clean when we moved in, repairs done when needed, equipment replaced when the landlord thought it necessary, and no fines for fictional cleaning!*2016 - the year of the savings account!*

I know the girl whose room I moved into this year; she got ALL her deposit back and yet the room was a total mess; hairs in ALL the drawers, grimy desk, hairs in the sink and an unhoovered carpet. Had to clean it myself before moving in; can't beleive they didn't fine her or see how gross the room was!!0
