Very interesting, may or may not be true (could just be yet another unfounded racist slur, maybe not, we can't check from here) , but your position is the same - in deep doo-doo...0 -
So Rockinter - is your HMO a licensed one?
All paperwork fully in order?
As Artful says, the fact that you have accepted rent from this couple means that they are indeed your Ts and you are unlikely to be able to get them out until well after an initial 6 month period.

Are you some foreign !!!!!! or just a tree-hugging lesbian?
I've just joined the line of posters reporting this to abuse - no doubt this charming persona will be gone shortly (to return in another guise, sigh).
OP, it looks to me like you may have got yourself into a very sticky situation, no doubt because your intentions were good and you didn't want to be too harsh... By accepting rent from this couple you effectively started an AST. This means that you will have to give them notice 4 months after this new AST started, to leave after 6 months. Get the correct advice (landlordzone.co.uk is a good place to start) because you need to get this right to minimize the damage! The last thing you want is for them to claim squatting rights over the whole house
Cissi (also known as "a foreign !!!!!!" albeit one who pays shedloads of tax in this country which she loves and has adopted as her own!)0 -

Since then his tenants paid me rent. There is no contract with them. I told them all to leave. Most of the tenants left except this couple. I gave the couple notice because they said that they needed a notice to leave and get a house.
You do have a contract now, if you've been taking rent from them. For how long have they been in the house since the original tenant left?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
when did they pay their first rent to you and for what period ?0
