burglary in rented flat

our 12 mth tenancy agreement runs until apr 11, but the flat got burgled recently, we feel volunrable to live in there at the mo.

where do we stand, as a tenant, if we want to move out in a month time? (allowing us to find somewhere safe & allowing the landlord to find another tenant). we're not willing to lose £550 bond.

should have signed up for 6 mths in April 10, as previous contracts were both for 6 mths (mar-sep 09, sep-mar 10)

""we're not willing to lose £550 bond."" - you may have to

legally you are bound to pay the rent until the end of the fixed term in 2011... if you want to leave early you must ask your landlord if he is willing to accept an early surrender of tenancy.. he does not have to agree to this...

s/he is also legally entitled to deduct money from your deposit for marketing costs to find another tenant and for rent until he finds a new tenant.....

think about it from the other point of view..... if your LL suddenly wanted his house back part way through a tenancy you would be shouting from the rooftops........

it is not your LLs fault you were burgled... can you ask him/her to improve the locks ?
