Hi I have an eco 7 meter and try to make full use of the cheap rate, I learnt alot of people have this type of meter. currently I try to use as much of the cheaper rate
my current usage includes having plug timers that turn on during the night to charge all the house cordless phones and also mobile chargers.
washing machine turns on at night and during the summer months i got my immersion water heater on a timer as well.
what do you do and have you got any tips?

Top tip, unless you have storage heaters, you are paying too much for your electricity.
Economy 7 tariff give you seven hours of cheap rate but charge more for day rate than a standard tariff.
If I remember right you need to be using at least 25-30% at night to break even, otherwise you would be better off with a single rate tariff. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
I agree with Penrhyn!
I had was on economy 7 but had old and oddly placed storage heaters in my very cold rented cottage.
I tried in vain to always remember to doing my washing at night, tumble dry at night and heat my water but frankly I was pants.
I gave up on my storage heaters sand got some 2kw heaters with timers and changed my rate to a standard day rate only, put my water on a timer, got an electric blanket, some thick socks and a blanket for my sofa.
I saved heaps of money - it's a pity it took me two years of paying through the nose for day units when I couldn't claw back the benefit at night!
I would think wisely about not using the storage heaters and explore using your day rate better!0 -
I did my research I got my electricity bill just today and worked out I am using on a yearly just under 35% at night
best part I worked out is from the cost of a single rate and then cost of two rate I am £93 better off on being on a two rate rather then a single rate
can not complain. and I have introduced more saving measures around the house so hopfully my 35% should increase.0
