Clean A Wheelie Bin

Options
I was just wondering if any one had any tips on what is the best way to clean out a wheelie bin? I've never paid much attention to it before and this week I spotted 2 huge maggots crawling on the rim :o YUK!!
By the way - I have no hose pipe or pressure washer.
Any tips would be useful
Thanks!

You can get someone to clean it for you. The guys normally come round in a van with a jet wash type thing the day the binmen have been. I've no idea how much they charge, don't use it myself, I assume it'd be similar to paying a window cleaner. Probably find one in the Thompson Local/yellow pages.

Cheaper alternative...have any of your neighbours got a jetwash you could borrow? you'd only need it for a few minutes

Thanks aussielle - I'll think I'll ask around for a pressure washer to borrow - cheaper than paying someone else to do it! ;)

Once you`ve got your bin cleaned buy some large black bin liners, cost about a £1 for 10.
Put the liner in the bin and tie a knot in one corner of the liner and then gently stretch it around the top of your wheelie-bin so it`s held in place.
When they empty your bin the liner will stay in place and should last about 8 weeks.
  • I just put some soapy water in the bin and use an old sweeping brush to give it a good clean out. :)

Yes and there is a £20,000 fine for dumping waste water down drains.

Spray some cleaning stuff around the bin then turn upside down and place a garden sprinkler under it.

Works a treat (if you have one of those sprinkler things)
