Hi,
I dont know if this has been posted before, but I've made an appointment with Santander to open the 5% interest current account mentioned on the
compare-best-bank-accounts page (cant post links yet)
While I got my appointment for this deal, I was however informed that the welcome bonus of £100 is no longer available.
Its still on their website, but they no longer give it apparantly. You still get 5% interest though.

Their website says the £100 offer is now an 'online exclusive' so you can still qualify if you apply online, rather than in a branch..
If opening an account online, you can also get extra cashback via quidco or topcashback..

I'm pretty sure that the website has been displaying it as 'online exclusive' for a while - so I doubt that they are correct.
As they advertise it, I'm sure you will get it... still at least you have got to experience Santander's famous customer service first-hand..
Perhaps the branch staff are on commission for how many accounts they open..

I've had no problems with their service; account switched smoothly, whenever i have called I haven't had to wait long etc.
How long does the bonus take to come through? Had the account for a month, paid in £1,000 twice, got 3 DD's set up.0 -

For the love of God leave whilst you can! (OK maybe a little dramatic) - service is terrible and they can't help with anything, rant follows.
When I swapped to A&L it wasn't brilliant as the Direct Debits were very slow to change, I don't think I should have closed my old account but left it with money to cover them just in case (nice if you can afford to do that), but I didn't get any charges for problems most companies were understanding. I think my £100 arrived in first month. The real hassle has happened since it's moved to Santander.
Last week I attempted to transfer some money to a different bank account, Santander systems didn't like this and flagged it up as suspicious activity and blocked my internet account in case it was fraud. I was a bit miffed they didn't email or call me to check but sent a letter instead, however I think fair enough.
I phoned the 0844 number (there is a free one I found later) and explained the transfer was okay, passed some security checks and asked them to confirm my internet account was active again, which they did. I then asked for the transfer to go through but was told they couldn't do that but needed to do it via the internet. I also asked why I couldn't see my ISA and was told that my current account had my House name in the address but my ISA didn't so they didn't link, asked them to change it but they couldn't / wouldn't.
Got home that night and the internet was still blocked due to fraud action. Phoned helpline but closed after 7 pm, phoned in morning and spoke the the most miserable sod in history, he sighed at every request and question. This time I failed the security questions (on account of the fact I said I had an ISA but they couldn't find it - I even explained what the issue was, no joy). Anyway I was told to present myself to the bank with ID. At this point I emailed a complaint, mainly due to the call centres mardy attitude.
Went to bank today, presented ID, was promised internet account active again. The original transaction I wanted was well over due and so I thought I'd pay it in using cash, went to counter to be told I couldn't have more than £500 unless I gave them 48 hours notice (!) This isn't money I'm borrowing, it's money I have sitting in the account, they had that much because I saw people paying in load before me in the line. I do wonder if they are going bust if they are restricted to paying such small amounts out.
Anyway got home and account still locked. Sent another complaint saying how poor they were and that they should have responded (even just an acknowledgement) to my last one and they were still rubbish.
I'm definitely moving (hence being on forum to look for a decent place). Only issue I foresee is that I have a linked savings account that I think can only be accessed from the internet, so may end up having to threaten to have Company Sectary with arrest for obtaining money by deception to get it.
Good luck and only stick money in if you have plenty of time to get it back out. Definitely ensure you are under the limit protected, I wouldn't be surprised if they are going to need to be bailed out next.
A record spoke to two people in same phone call BOTH claimed to have fixed it. BOTH lied.Santander are awful - mission in life is to warn people since 17-Sep-10, 18-Sep-10 realised one of thousands.0 -
Hi all
I have had similar 'customer service' issues with Santander - I attempted to open a current account online with their £100 + 5% offer on 7th July this year.
It has been over 10 weeks and I still don't have a reply! First of all I was asked to send extra ID, which I duly did. After a month and another email from them asking for the same information I called back - only to be told the post room got my letter, but the information got 'lost' somewhere in Santander HQ. I have resent the information
I called two weeks ago and the lady at the call centre informed me the application was still 'waiting' or being processed - but at least they have got my documents now. I have now emailed through their website but no reply.
Has anyone else had this issue? I have a sneaky feeling they are delaying accepting my application until the £100 offer has ended...but maybe that's just the cynic in me.
