Mazda RX8

In the 230 version, there are 3 inlets and the 3rd one only opens (mechanically) above 6,000 rpm. If you lust pootle about all the time, this port never opens, and can seize. That's where the advice comes from. As with all cars, make sure they're warm before you push them!0

We had an RX-8 for nearly 3 years until about a year ago. We did 30k miles without incident. It was MrsLAs car. I didn't like the very poor visibility when manouevering. Quite fun to set off the little bell when you pass 9000 rpm, though.0

It also helps burn off carbon deposits that can build up and cause premature wear on the apex seals (ie. rotor tips)0 -
In my experience the visibility is good for a sports car. Not as good as a TT, better than a 350z. The pillars at the back of the front door and front of the back door get in the way when looking over your shoulder, but otherwise it's absolutely fine.0

Unfortunately while being a nice left field car (your unlikely to park beside another one) the free revving engine is the weak link that not even Mazda with their development money managed to fix. Lovely car but your not going to find one with high mileage on an original engine.0

I have been reading this thread, and I am quite shocked, that in this day and age, there are cars which destroy engines at around 30K miles. As an owner of several old Alfas, I am aware of the stick which they get from the motoring press over their so called reliability issues. So, when Jeremy Clarkson and the like heap praise on the Mazda RX8, I will sit back with a smug look on my face, because having done over 500K miles in Alfas, I have never been stranded at the roadside, and all of my Alfas (Four of them), had done well over 100K miles.
I think Mr Clarkson should do a little piece on the reliability of the RX8.0 -
The Rx8 is a specialist car designed for a certain type of use. It has, a unique engine that needs to be looked after in a certain way. It's not really the fault of the car if people buy them and incorrectly use them as shopping cars.0

Please tell us what that "certain type of use" is then, because I thought it was released as a sports car, you know, like Audi TTs, Z4s and the like.
It certainly is not a specialist track day car.0
