Oops! My mistake.0

I know I am digging an old post from 2 years ago here but just wanted to say my car was an M reg and was written off by Elephant for minimal damage 3 years ago. I only had the car for 6 months and spent on a brand new electric hood, had it resprayed and fully serviced. The interior was pristine cream leather and the car drove and looked great. When I had the accident in Essex, after the AA secured the bumper, I drove the back to North West London to the Elephant approved garage. 2 days later I was told it is a write off but I offered to buy it off Elephant but was refused. The car was sold off by Elephant and is being driven around. Elephant offered me £2,000. I still feel cheated.0

I wonder if someone can help me, i bought an 07 automatic new shape corsa that had previously been written off, 6 months ago from a panel beater, who repaired the car as it was only cosmetic damage. it still had 6 months left on the manufacters warranty. A couple of weeks ago it broke down, i was taken to a local garage, who could not find the fault, apart from saying it was something to do with the gears box, they then had it transferred to a vauxhall dealer, where i was told the warranty had expired a month earlier. They said they would need to do some tests on it to see where the fault is, i have just been told that it is either the ecu or the gearbox, they have been onto vauxhall to see if they will be able to do anything to help out as this could cost upto £2,000 to get repaired, i am waiting to find out what their response is. The car has only 22,000 miles on the clock is there anything i can do if vauxhall say they are not going to help out. They have also said that i am not entitled to a courtesy car as the warranty has expired. Could i go back to where i got it from. Any help would be really appreciated.0

Please if anyone has advise, I need it fast! My car was in a accident; whereas the other driver was found 100% at fault. (Geico Insurance is the other persons insurance and has excepted full responsibility for said accident). I took my car in to my insurance company's body shop to have it evaluated/estimated. Whereas the other person who hit me his insurance adjuster "Geico" just happen to be there at the same time, and deemed it unsafe to drive, and declared it a total loss.
Now Geico has ordered me a rental car, and my guy (at the body shop) ask's do you need anything out of your car, well I get a few things. He never mentions anything about "Fee's or Impound charges? Now I go back a few days later to pick up more paper work out of my car, did he mention anything to me then? No! Now more time has gone by, I call over to this Auto body and ask to speck to Todd, he's busy, I replied tell him not to release my car without my permission, and without me, as Geico hasn't settled yet. I received a letter not from his letter head and it states impound charges from the 27, of September @ $45.00 per day! My boyfriend thought it was from another company wanting me to transfer the car.
Now, I've had this rental car since the 27, of September and on October 6, I get a call late in the afternoon from Enterprise stating the car was rented till September 30 2011, (didn't get to return call till the next day) this isn't true, as I looked on the contract and on due date it's blank. In other words no return date specified. Now Enterprise has charged my Visa without my permission, and without my knowledge! This was ordered and rented by "GEICO/CHRIS LANDRY), NOT BY MYSELF! I only put down a small fee for gas, and they stated you must always put a credit card down even when the Insurance company pay's.
I can't get Geico to settle, they are saying this person doesn't have enough insurance to cover the loss, he's also a US Marine.
Please can anyone help with all this mess as I don't know what to do.
with blessings, and in prayer that you will get back with me ASAP.0 -

just in the same spot myself, small dent in the bonnet, broken grill and numberplate, so my car is a write off (£1200 repairs on a £1000 value car). I have opted to keep the car and repair it with a new bonnet from a scrap yard - insurance chap says it has to be a cat c write off as repairs are more than the value, I have since found online thats its probably only cat D. can anyone tell me what paperwork I will need to do to get it back on the road, I have heard vehicle identity check, plus reregister. is this all I need?

if it's a cat C then it'll need a Vic check (just to confirm it's the right car rather than being road legal), although I don't think you need any thing if it comes back as a D0

It's how the motor industry works and its given a category after repair so that if you sell it, the next buyer is aware of it and can't be conned into paying more than its worth. It's illegal to sell a damaged car without making it known to the purchaser (just like clocking the mileage) so it has to be recorded as damaged and categorised as to how badly damaged.
Class D and C in reality means that the repairs came up to more than 2/3 the value of the car. D means minor damage which is fixable, C means potentially structural damage but its fixable. You mention the towbar got moved so its highly likely that the part of the chassis its fixed to has been bent hence it's a category C. If there hadn't of been a tow bar it would of probably made category D instead.
It doesn't mean the car isn't safe to use, it just means that its not economically viable to the insurers to payout to get it repaired. They'll pay you the value of the car (minus the excess) and leave you to get it repaired on the cheap and then MOT it (be sure to arrange insurance to take it to the MOT though as some insurers will suspend your policy until its MOT'd).
Once its MOT'd the insurers are happy that its legally safe to drive and job done. To be honest it really isn't worth claiming though as your premiums will suffer now.. I claimed on a front end smash and they wrote it off as a C. I rebuilt it myself using 2nd hand parts and after a spat with the insurers cancelled the claim. Turns out my policy would of gone from £40 per month to £80.
Ebay is popular for both buying and selling write offs as cat d/c because of the wider market. Cat Ds will get the market value and so will Cat Cs whilst buyers can find themselves a cheaper than normal car if they can accept the fact it had a minor prang at some point in its past.0 -
And after posting that I find this thread has been dragged up by someone wanting to talk about a totally different aspect of their own insurance claim.
Blondie, you may be blonde but normally its best to start your own topic rather than reply to someone elses 2-3 year old thread.0 -
