Deep Fat Fryer has died.

In March this year, I bought a deep fat fryer at half price at £15 from a small company, which was closing down, they also did minor elec.appliance repairs,
The company as a retailer did indeed close down but the repair side of it kept going under the exact same name.
I took it back because it has stopped heating up and I was just told 'tough' you just have to take it up with Morphy Richards personally.
Is this correct, please.

Well, Im not 100% sure, I think I will have to do it myself, but Im a bit miffed.
Between you me and the gatepost, it is part of a group of companies and the annoying part of it is i work for the bliddy group of companies.
Im on reception and do the post so I just migt take a big bit of brown paper of my supply and make use of a franking macine label :rotfl:
(and pay it back if I get my postage refunded of course, thougt I'd better add that bit.)make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

I suspect this will be down to whether the repair side is trading as the same business and simply stopped selling goods or if the retail side was a separate entity and was liquidated.Back by no demand whatsoever.0

No, the shop and the repair side was done on the same premises. the retailing side of it shut down, the shop had a sale and just literally closed down then the repair side of it just moved elsewhere to a little workshop and is still trading under the same name as it was. No liquidation was involved.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

I think you right if there the same company, but just because they worked out the same building doesn't mean there the same company.
Morthy Richards don't have any kind of legal responsibility to you in this case as the contract is with the retailer not the manufacture. Although contacting Morthy Richards may not be a bad idea. It may be easier to get them to sort under there warranty than the legal battle that will occur if you chase the retailer.
How old is the item btw?
If its over 6 month old then its down to you to prove the fault is inherent to the item and not though fair ware and tear or misuse. ie you need to get a independent 3 rd party opinion at cost which will be refunded if it find in your favour.
Do you have proof of purchase?
If you don't have proof of purchase, doesn't have to be a physical receipt then your stuffed.0 -

(in my experience this long drawn out procedure has never been requested by MR)

think you may find Morphy Richards are quite a good company to deal with, AFAIK they still have a 2 year warranty and can sometimes determine from the product serial number the date of manufacture and get a pretty close idea of the DOP, you may however have to pay carriage to return it to themI'm now a retired teacher... hooray ...:j
Those who can do, those who can't, come to me for lessons:cool:0
