How do I turn off windows defender/

I'e just bought my daughter a new laptop which had Bulldog security installed, I decided to remove it and install Kaspersky which I'v,e been pleased with, however I'm unable to turn off windows defender (as I don't want two running together) Any ideas? Windows 7 is the os.
