Bankruptcy/House contents/bare wires etc
Just a quickie! We're doing vol repo and br soon and have moved out of mortgaged flat and took contents etc. Are we safe to take things like kitchen doors to use in our next place or things like light switches? We bought these items and other things like a heated towel rail for the bathroom etc when we first moved in 5 years ago and they cost a lot of money. It seems a shame to leave these things in the property if it's going for repo and will prob be ripped out anyway, but wondered if we would get done for taking these items or for leaving the wires sticking out?

Fixtures and fitting (doors, switches, light fittings) are part of the property and will have been included in any valuation. If you'd put a new roof on, would you plan on taking that too?
Are you really intending to leave exposed live wires all over the property? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I agree with the post above.
You also need to understand that your liability for the mortage does not end until they sell the property and see if this covers what is owed. If it doesn't then you still owe money. What you are suggesting would further devalue the property and make it harder to sell, therefore you would end up owing your lender more.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

Why bother?
If you are going bankrupt, all your assets will be sold to pay your creditors.
Those assets include the kitchen door whether it is left in the property or not."Now to trolling as a concept. .... You can take your fixtures if you wish, but you must replace them with basic switches etc. If you spent loads on a light fitting, for instance, you can take it, but you must replace with a basic light fitting. Same for doors etc., if they cost a bomb, replace with something basic, but you can't just leave the place unfit for abitation or dangerous.I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.0 -
But if the OP is going bankrupt anyway, all assets (e.g. doors, whether in the property or not) will be sold to help pay the creditors."Now to trolling as a concept. .... not necessarily as the official receiver is only interested in realising money from assets over a certain value (e.g over £1000) - so if something is not worth the OR's time and effort to sell then they won't be interested and the OP can do what they like with the items. Not all assets will be seized from the OP.BSC #215/No.1 Jan 09 Club0
