Is the router broken?

Our internet connection failed suddenly last night and this morning it was still down.
I connected through dial up to check the ISP and they have no problems, say everything is working fine.
So I found the original modem from the ISP and am connected fine using that.
Is the router broken? The lights are lit the way they should be, no signs of anything just won't connect us.

Hello
Switch it off, leave for a couple of minutes and on again (if you haven't already). If that doesn't work then ...
Can you connect to the router to see the settings / configuration / logs? Usually it is something like http://192.168.1.1, but it will be in the manual that came with it.
You should then be able to see the status and if it is connected / failed login / etc..

Log into your router ( usually, http://192.168.2.1 or http://192.168.1.1 ) and have a look around.
If you haven't changed the default password. It will usually be Admin / Admin ... or in Belkin's case - leave the password field blank.
If you find they are set to default & you run a wireless network - change the password!

It is often the case that you sometimes have to 'power cycle' the router. Just unplug it from the power for 15-20 seconds & reconnect it - that's what usually sorts out my Router problems
(ahhh, the old "have you tried turning it off & on again" approach!)0 -
It has been unplugged several times and still it wouldn't work, but this time I unplug it and it works.
Incidentally I keep having to change the password, never seems to save it. Everytime it reverts back to the default. Any ideas why?0 -
What make / model is it?0

if its a dlink have you gone into commands and "SAVE ALL" this will need to be done for every change other wise on a power cycle it will revert to the last saved settings0
