Tax / Self Employed, Advice

Hi there, I have recently become self-employed (I am a freelance writer) and I will be responsible for my own taxes for the first time. Does anybody have any advice about self-assesment etc, it all seems quite overwhelming for me at the moment, being someone who is completely incompetent at mathematics and arithmetic. Thanks in advice for any help, Johno.
