Is there any point in having a car if you're doing so little mileage?

Agree about the gas/electricity useage. Ours used to be nearly as much as that but we've cut it to 37 a month for gas & 29 a month for electricity. We didn't change suppliers or tariffs or anything, it was simply a big decision to cut back what we used and it has meant that in winter, we willl only warm one downstairs room thoroughly and put extra layers on. If you are on dual tariff & it's cheaper at night, set things like washing machine, breadmaker, etc, to come on then. Energy costs are so high now that every little saving helps. Your internet/cable package is way high. We have broadband/landline & cable tv from Virgin & it's 45 a month, that'd be a 50 quid saving a month for you, more if you went for Freeview or fewer channels. Groceries could also come down if you are determined to do this. It means more cooking from scratch, menu planning, freezing, etc, but you can save a lot, & your Mum may like to get involved with helping plan that, as she is of a generation that is often pretty knowledgeable about careful housekeeping (tho' I don't want to generalise, as my Mum is in her early 70s and isn't remotely interested in cooking). I think you'll get lots of advice on here and find you can make quite a few cutbacks. Everything helps, however small it seems at the time.
