Better too many than not at all.

Didnt want to read and run.

First thing that jumps out is your gas and electric seem high. I have extended 4 bedroom house, 4 of us . My gas and electric is 122 and Im sure there are people that will say that is high. You are paying 175 a month.
    Egg April 10 £6600 Jan £4678 now £0
    Santander Jan £3414 April £3338
    Virgin April£2643 Aug £3155 April £7109
    Barclaycard Oct £1476 April £1287
So far paid off 17% of c.c. debt:T
  • Yes my gas/electric high as I have my mother who lives with me (79yrs old) and gets cold,at home all day through winter.
Thats why no TV license fee.
  • Are the payday loans already included in your DMP?

You mentioned in the other post about mortgage arrears - how much are they? (Shelter may be able to help on this http://england.shelter.org.uk/get_advice/repossession/mortgage_arrears)
Do CCCS know that you have mortgage arrears? They may advise that you give token payments to creditors as your home is much more important than creditors.
  • Yes payday loans in plan.....my morgage arrears are £1600, my morgage is £600 put hopefully they will accept £50 overpayment. C.C.C.S have advised me about this,,,,,,,dont know if halifax will...accept.

Funny how everyone who is 'struggling' has £50 or £60 a month going to sky ;).
I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair

If you're putting £30 a month into an emergency fund why are you showing zero cash?

Are you claiming all you can in relation to your mother? Winter fuel payments? Any carer's allowance if she needs help? (Is this what the other income is?)
Excuse any mis-spelt replies, there's probably a cat sat on the keyboard

If she's home alone through the day and cold, just put the heating on in the room (s) thst she uses. Turn off the radiators in all the other rooms that are vacant during day (bedrooms). Try turning the thermostat down a couple of degrees.

Does she contribute at all to the household bills, or is that your other income?

Also, if you are noticing that you've not got the £19 at the end of each month, and the £30 you've factored in for emergencies, do a spending diary to find out what you are really spending your money on - recording down where every penny is spent for a month or two.

Also, can you combine internet and TV together in a package to get it cheaper? It seems that you are spending a huge amount here, do you need all the extra channels you are paying for?

Go to the old style boards for tips on getting the food/groceries bill down.
  • Hi

Well done on getting things down in black and white. I've had a quick scan through your SOA and put in some comments on where you could save:

    Monthly Expense Details
    Mortgage................................ 650
    Secured/HP loan repayments.............. 0
    Rent.................................... 0
    Management charge (leasehold property).. 0
    Council tax............................. 112
    Electricity............................. 85
    Gas..................................... 90
Gas and Electric is really high even with your mum living with you. Does it include arrears? Are you on a prepayment meter? If not look at switching and getting a combined deal www.uswitch.com
    Oil..................................... 0
    Water rates............................. 22
    Telephone (land line)................... 0
    Mobile phone............................ 5
This is good but just want to check you are being honest with yourself on this and its what you really are spending
    TV Licence.............................. 0
    Satellite/Cable TV...................... 60
Get rid of it when contract runs out. In the meantime can you downgrade your package?
    Internet Services....................... 35
This is high. Does it include line rental (which is why £0 above?)
    Groceries etc. ......................... 320
This is high for 2 adults and 1 child. This is our budget for 2 adults and 5 children (2 children of which eat like adults!). I think you could reduce this to £220 and not be any worse off food/nutrition wise. Have a look at the relevant boards for frugal shopping/groceries/cooking etc.
    Clothing................................ 10
Ok, though I think you need to up to maybe £20 to be realistic
    Petrol/diesel........................... 20
This is good, but just want to check again this is what you're really using?
    Road tax................................ 10
    Car Insurance........................... 12
    Car maintenance (including MOT)......... 5
I think you need to up this to £15-20. All cars need repairs at some point.
    Car parking............................. 0
    Other travel............................ 40
    Childcare/nursery....................... 0
    Other child related expenses............ 0
    Medical (prescriptions, dentist etc).... 28

    Total monthly expenses.................. 1573

So theres some good news in there. You are obviously doing well on adjusting your lifestyle but I think you can free up £100-130 a month by looking at your utilities, sky/internet and your groceries.

Another thought - Have CCCS discussed possibility of downsizing your house due to the amount of equity you have in it?
