What have you got to lose? Give it a go, get the card cancelled and see what happens.

My card was blocked because of a suspicious transaction and NOTHING could get through, might give you a day or so to get all the money out of your account and into a new one.

  • Your GP will not inform anyone.

You dont have to go off sick if you choose not to

If they are a good GP they could help ( I realise they are not all good)

Have you got a rotten employer? Mine was wonderful and I was off with depression for many months and took getting on 2 years to fully rehabilitate
  • Yes, tell them you haven't got your card and you think it has been stolen (if this is easier to say than it definitely has been stolen)
  • Yes make sure you say stolen, if you just say you've lost it then there's more chance of them not putting a full block on it.

Let us know how you get on.

  • Have to open new bank account-- will do that straight away. Thanks everyone your great
  • I have put info on your SOA thread about mortgage arrears. Once you have opened the bank account, I think it would be a good idea to tell CCCS about them - they may be able to cut your payments, so that you can pay back the arrears.

http://england.shelter.org.uk/get_advice/repossession/mortgage_arrears. Shelter have a specialist department that you can phone for advice. This is more important than paying the payday loans or anyone else.

I opened a new account on-line with Halifax (easy cash). All done on-line only took about a week.Read my thread on Credit Unions. They have just helped me greatly out of a situation just like yours. That also only took 7 -10 days from joining.
  • Going now phone bank.will let you know how i got on. very nervous.just hope i dont break down crying again.
  • Hi

    Ok, first of all relax.

Second - STOP phoning the payday loan companies. They are experts at making you feel like brown smelly stuff and are not helping your situation or your health and state of mind.

Remember they are only going to look out for themselves. You need to start looking out for YOU!

You need to go into your bank right away (or cash point) and empty it of any money you have in there already. This will give you something for food/petrol etc.

Next you need to report your card as STOLEN (don't just cancel it which is what the CCCS are referring to or say you lost it).

Tell them you were in a bar (Friday lunchtime remember) and you had your bag stolen and that your credit card has already been used.

Inform the bank that any payments must be blocked as they could be potentially fraudulent. TELL them this. They must NOT authorize ANY transactions.

This will hopefully give you a little time (but not much because of the recurring authority thing I mentioned in the previous post).

You must then go into another bank (not associated with any of your current debts) and open up another bank account.

Do this today if you can, tomorrow if you can't. You can open a basic account in branch immediately (you will need some ID, check with which one you go to whats needed).

Once this is done you can pay in the money you have just taken out and arrange with your payroll people to have the next possible pay run paid into this account.

Now hopefully (not guaranteed though) by reporting your card as STOLEN you have gained some time and any requested payments will be blocked and you will be able to get to the bank on Monday, withdraw ALL your wages and then take them to your new bank.

The most important thing is to stop the payday loan companies taking your money, you are going to need that money for the mortgage arrears that is a damn sight more important!!

Ok now have a read of my LBM post here. Not trying to beat my own drum here, its just that these are the things you are going to have to do to get things back on track. And if I can do it, so can you.

The CCCS are brilliant, as are all the DFW's on here (they helped me so much I will be posting here for years to try to give something back) but ultimately we cannot be there with you and march you round to the banks, make the phone call to report the card as stolen etc. Only you can do that. And you need to do it URGENTLY now.

Once you start dealing with it, you have no idea how much better you will start to feel.

I have dealt with Payday Express and Wonga and they have both agreed to my payment plan. The problem is though, while you are earning them a nice bit of money by rolling over the interest every month, or keeping you in that payday loan trap, they are not going to agree to anything.

You need to default on the loan first, and then, and only then, are they likely to agree to a payment plan.

So lets tackle the other stuff when you need to. The most important thing right now is to ring fence your wages and try to do everything possible to prevent the payday loan companies from taking it.

I too was going to mention credit unions as a means of paying back the money from payday loans. but you may also be able to get a crisis loan from the dss to pay back payday loans?
