"I'm pretty certain there should have been an item of jewellery inside"

To be clear - an envelope containing something, you know not what, was damaged and the contents, whatever they might have been, were missing.

Certainly worth pointing out to the RM, to see what their response is.

I have had stuff go missing and I have complained. Although they did reply the response was pretty feeble, which is why wherever possible I do not use postal services of any kind (not just RM)

    just to add
items such as jewelery inside standard envelopes can easily get caught in the machinery
    happens all the time
once you get an empty envelope in delivery you must deliver it
if you notice it before leaving then you should place it in a damaged bag ( i would laso make a manager aware)
however if you dont notice before hitting the street then you are stuck between delivering it or endorsing it and returning it to be sealed
    neither are ideal

    ??

As I keep saying, I've told them before several times so I've got a pretty good idea what the (useless) response would be.

FYI - everyone who questioning my OP - I described the envelope/address method/stamp used to the seller I thought had sent me the item (I'd already deduced which item it probably was) and they said yes that was it.

    This place is weird.

It happened to us the other day. I missed the Postie at the door and came down to find a 'sorry you were out' card saying that he'd put the parcel in the paper recycling bin at the side of the house. Retrieved it to find a package my mum had sent for the girls: she'd wrapped a few bits of clothes in a carrier bag and wrapped that in parcel paper, half of which had been torn off. I would have thought machine fault if it weren't for the envelope inside being torn open too.
Not the first time either, my friend sent me a ring I'd accidentally left at her house, and all that arrived was an empty ring box with some torn paper taped up around it. F****** scumbags.

those are a nightmare! you go to get a package out of the york trolliers to sort and your finger goes through it
once that happens the paper just tears on every handling
the RM damage tape wont hold it together either
