Splitting ethernet incl. wireless router

Comments

  • Ah I see Google came up with the 4 port model and I didn't look further!

Cheapest option then is a switch, which you connect to the router with an ethernet cable. You then connect the PC and laptop to the switch with ethernet cables. The connection of the router to the modem remains unchanged.

Alternatively, you could upgrade your router to a newer wireless one with more ethernet ports :)

Maybe speak to Virgin and ask them when your contract ends as you are thinking of leaving them as some other company have offered you a wireless cable router/modem/4 port switch......

  • @DCFC79 - the router is Actiontec (see previous post) and supplied by Virgin.

Going to get a swicth - they're not too expensive and having looked at them, pretty sure it's what I need.

get a new 4 port wireless router, free from virgin, a switch is another layer of complication and electricity usage.

Or fix the problem, the laptop if it's wireless, should work wirelessly (assuming it's allowed in the work build), and should work plugged into the router. More details are required.
