Lock. Can't remove UPVC cylinder lock from door

Hope someone can help me, please.

Insurance company insists on having a kitemark lock on the UPVC front door.

I cannot get the existing cylinder out of the door to measure it in order to buy a new one in correct size with BS kitemark.

I have read, and watched on video, instructions for doing this: remove Phillips screw, insert key in lock and turn slightly and push cylinder out but it will not come out.

Have tried it every which way.

Have removed handle, have removed metal strip from the whole door.

Can anyone identify what I'm doing wrong, please?
Thanks in advance

  • When you turn the key in the lock can you feel it "catch" at the point where it releases?

If you hold it with one hand and wiggle it back and forth with the other whilst turning the key, at some point it should release.

Are you sure you've removed all the screws?
  • Thanks for your quick response.

    Yes, all screws removed.

No, I can't feel it at the point at which it catches.

Have sprayed WD40 around the aperture, still won't slide out.
  • Have now put the door back together again: have put the locking handle back on and the aluminium strip which keeps the hook bolts in place, replaced all screws. Everything locks OK and I have tried wriggling the key a little, cannot feel it catch.
    It just won't slide out.
I have just successfully slid out the cylinder on the back door, no problem.
  • With the screws removed is it loose but refusing to slide out, or does it feel tight in the lock.

    It does move a little.
The key to cylinder lock also operates the locking handle lock.
    Is this important?
  • I am not sure about the locking handle lock.Have you tried all combinations of lifting or lowering the handle.I am used to euro locks in wooden doors. After removing the screw holding it in place pushing the lock while turning the key should work.If the hole in the door is missaligned the barrel may be wedged in place and need more force to move it.If you take the handles off (again) you will see if it is tight against the upvc.
  • Dont know if u have got it out yet.
ocasssionaly the cylinder lock is not held in by a screw but there is a hole and inside there is a small grub screw inside thats needs a allen key.

Duchy Duke, thank you so much!
Yes, it needed an allen key and yes the husband has now got it sorted.
