Beware equifax online registration rip off

equifax....a company that is supposed to keep track of your credit rating and make sure the information is current....NOT rip you off by making it part of your application that you have to call them, spend 10 mins on the phone answering the same questions as you have just answered online, to someone who is struggling with the English language and continues to talk over you when you ask why these details are being asked for again and why you are having to call them at all. Being asked for your credit card details AGAIN, so you can do your application over the phone....even though you have just applied online and entered your details there and been charged. Then when you are now seriously doubting the integrity of this conversation and Equifax as a company, you are told that 'because they have run out of security questions you will have to send a copy of your passport / birth certificate for them to validate your application'!! I DON'T THINK SO. what is this company about??

if thats the case, why can others just apply online and get their report instantly??

i am now going to write a complaint to Equifax for clearly trying to make money from its 5p min calls.

i wish i had known about the freephone number before.

Martin...why are they being advertised on this site?

Does this really happen to everyone?

  • I can only presume you answered some of their questions incorrectly and they have doubts you are who you say you are
  • To be fair I had the same problem trying to use the free Equifax trial. Answered correctly yet still told to call bla bla.

....However, when I ordered the basic Equifax £2 online statutory (same online security questions) I got it immediately no problem.

I had no problems with my free Equifax trial - signed up, looked at my report and then two weeks later spent about 3 minutes on a telephone call to cancel the service. No charge other than the 3 minute call and no problems at all. Guess you were just unlucky.
My posts are my own opinions based on my experiences and info gathered from sites such as this.

I have this problem with Equifax only, although I've never bothered to call them when it requested.

I agree with you entirely on this one!

Although... can you name a company that has a freely advertised freephone number? There can't be more than a small handful!

In what other country in the modern world is there a custom of companies not providing 0800 numbers and actually charging you to call them? None that I know of!
You're spelling is effecting me so much. Im trying not to be phased by it but your all making me loose my mind on mass!! My head is loosing it's hair. I'm going to take myself off the electoral role like I should of done ages ago and move to the Caribean. I already brought my plane ticket, all be it a refundable 1.
