Comet Extended Insurance Policy, Please Help me

Can anyone help me please? I purchased a fridge/freezer and at the time paid for an extended warranty which was £80.00 and does not expire until next month. I've rung this morning to arrange an engineer visit as my appliance has a fault and was informed Comet cancelled my insurance without any warning in January.
Can they do this as I paid for the extra insurance that hasn't yet expired? They also tried to say they only did this as I have purchased a new product to replace it in January which I never did.
I had engineers out last year but that was to replace a faulty part that manufacturers asked them to contact their customers about.
How can you pay for insurance and then they cancel it without warning?
I'm waiting for them to contact their Head Office but would appreciate any advice or help on this

It's normal with extended warranties that if you have the product replaced at any time during the warranty period that the extended warranty for the original product then terminates.
It seems that Comet might have made an administrative error and they think that your product has been replaced when it hasn't. It should be fairly easy to sort out since you would have had to register the appliances make, model and most importantly serial number at the time you registered for the warranty. Since the appliance that you want fixing will have the same details as the appliance you registered then you should be ok.
I think I'd phone them back, explain the situation and don't take no for an answer. Escalate yourself to head office via a letter if necessary.
Who underwrites the extended warranty for Comet? You might make more headway if you contact them directly.0 -
I have checked the paperwork and it doesn't say who underwrites the policy.
Can't believe they wiped 9 months of a paid policy off without even advising me. I'm with you there's clearly an error i'm just concerned that now the appliance has the same fault as the manufacturers one last year I worry they will be reluctant to help me.
They seem very keen to want to charge me for an engineer's visit of which I have refused to accept.
Think i'll give them until 11am to come back and then follow your advice and ask for the contact details for Head Office
Thanks again and all hassle I could really do without!0
