Elephant Insurance Direct Debit

I'm having problems with Elephant insurance over a direct debit & want to know what I can do, I'l start from the beginning..

Last month I started a policy with Elephant, deposit paid & DD set up for a few days before my payday, So I changed it about a week later when I recieved my insurance documents to just after I get paid.

Then I get a email saying I've entered different insurance details for my dad on Diamond (Basically I hadn't read the question properly & didn't realise I had to put in points from the last 5 years, even though 3 had come off the month before my new policy, so I spoke to Elephant & sent proof of his licence & that was all sorted till yesterday.

I check my online banking & Elephant had took the DD like they were supposed to, but then they put the money straight back into the account....the money was already to be taken

I've spoke to Elephant who have said they can't see anything wrong with my payment & if there is anything wrong they wont see it for a while! I don't want this coming back to bite me on the backside! Rang the bank & they said that Elephant had cancelled the DD around the 12th of last month.

Rang Elephant back & said I want a written confirmation that my insurance is still valid even with their mistake, the guy I spoke to refused & said all they can do is send me a letter to say the DD has failed (which isn't my fault!) So I have sent them a email through their website to say I have spoke to 2 people in their customer services department & they have said my insurance is fine, as this is all I can see I can do for the time being.

I've seen lot's of bad reviews of Elephant & don't want to be left with no insurance, like some women did after they messed up her DD's twice:eek:

Any help would be gladly appreciated & sorry for the essay!" :p

It's happened again!" Elephant have said they won't be able to tell if the payments failed until a few days!" Well you don't need to check your systems as I'm ringing to tell you it's failed again!" How hard can it be to take out a direct debit from my account!" Both my insurance & bank are useless, both blaming each other!

    Advice anyone??

In your original post you said:

Did you reinstate your DD instructions (with Elephant)? Otherwise they won't ever be able to get any money from your account.

You need to pursue/escalate this issue with Elephant as the next thing will be them cancelling your policy due to default which could cause big problems for you getting any insurance in future with other insurance companies.

I've re-set the direct debit up with Elephant 3 times as each time they either send me a letter or it hasn't come out of the bank..

Given the palaver you seem to be having with them, if you can afford it, I would seriously consider just paying the policy premium as a single lump sum - at least that way you know they have it, it can't fail and you know you are covered. If not, I'm really not sure what your options are or where you stand...

I didn't actually look at the reviews till after I'd bought the policy.
