Conservatory .. Do I or Dont I?

I am sitting in mine now, its 9 degrees outside but its a comfy 21 degrees in here, the underfloor heating is on but the floor is exceptionally insulated underneath so the actual heater is only cycling on now and then for a short time to top it up. Floor is at 34 degrees. Not exactly winter but then the heating is barely ticking over either, plenty in reserve.
During the hottest of days when you come home its stifling in there as its been fairly shut up, but opening the many windows and double doors its a pleasant temperature in 10 minutes. Its got a high pitched glass roof with solar glass (slightly Grey don't like the Blue) works fine.
This is not some hear say 'advice' but a simple reality. If someone doesn't want a conservatory, then its their loss!
I believe its down to careful planning, good design & installation, quality materials and some common sense.
(PS temperature no issue, only annoyance is the bugs getting in, need to remember to shut windows up a bit before dark. I do have a powerful electric fly-killer in there. It works automatically via a special plug that switches on at dusk for 4 hours to have a bug cull!)0 -

I posted realistic facts and reasons after investigating all the aspects of a conservatory.
You added nothing to the debate by your nonsense comment, which wasn`t even on topic.
These boards are full of "smart- a%ses" who can`t debate but put silly negative comments.
Pennylane, your idea of a summerhouse is probably the one I would have gone for and maybe yet will.0 -

Sorry I disgagree. I think its you that hasnt brought anything to this post other than stating the obvious that they are hot in summer and cold in winter. Then you asked people to not post nonsense about ways to get around the heat/cold using window blinds/fans/heat reflecting glass etc.
The reality is a correctly designed and well thought out conservatory can become one of the most used rooms in the house. Done badly and yes you probably have wasted money.
We have a blue glass conservatory and whilst it gets hot in summer as soon as the doors etc open up its an extension of the lounge with comfy sofas etc. In winter its still used as we have underfloor heating so we can enjoy winter daylight in the conservatory whereas in the house it can be quite dark due to winter being darker. If you found my post helpful, please remember to press the THANKS button! --->0 -

Thank you.
After much research, this one looks unobtrusive on a sill, is powerful enough to light up the room and kills well, fries many insects to dust! Worth shopping around on the web using the product code ("A200CB insect") for the best price. (I got it here cheaper with postage but out of stock)
Use with one of these (available in DIY's etc) and set for say 4 hours to avoid running the tubes all night and prolong its life and its all automated apart from taking the killer into the garden and brushing it out every now and then.0 -

If you had bothered to do a search, you would have discovered that this subject has been covered many times before. I made a lengthy post in one of them explaining my reasons for having a conservatory - which I use 365 days a year.
You are obviously too lazy or incompetent to do any preparatory work prior to posting a post which truly "added nothing to the debate" and then have to resort to rude and personally insulting comments when this is pointed out to you.
Your post contained absolutely NO "realistic facts and reasons" just a biased and dogmatic one-sided statement of your personal views.0 -
I was quite sceptical about paying out the money for a conservatory, however I was persuaded by my OH, ours is on the north facing wall of a bungalow we get the sun early morning and evening and all day on the roof, since it was built we have practically lived in it all the time, the lounge and dining room have become redundant.
For the use and enjoyment we get out of it as far as we are concerned it was money well spent and we would not be without one now.0
