Selling faulty GHD's on ebay - hologram?

I have a pair of mk3 GHD's that have started playing up (light goes out when cable twists round in a certain position). I was going to sell them on ebay as faulty and put the money towards a new pair. I'm 99.9% certain they are genuine, I bought them from a hairdressers wholesalers and didn't get them 'cheap' or anything like that.

Anyway, I vaguely recall checking the hologram on the GHD website when I bought them (could be a false memory syndrome!) so went to their website and was going to put the hologram code in but it doesn't let you simply check the code, it wants you to register your details against the code so I didn't go through with it.

How would this work for the potential buyer? If I register in order to verify the code, will it then prevent them from verifying the code to reassure themselves they have bought a genuine item (as they will already be registered to me). Is there any way of simply verifying the code rather than having to register them to me when my intention is to sell them anyway.

No, but as the buyer is going to have your details anyway, why not give them your registration info and let them see for themselves?

you could register using dummy details (like Hugh Jass or Royal Payne or Walter Melon... ) then pass them on to the buyer explaining why.

I have a 5 yr old pair of mk 3s that were doing the same, I've sent them to GHD to see if they'll repair for them. Worth a try! lol If you fancy waiting a week or so before putting them on ebay I can let you know if they fixed mine or not? I sent them away yesterday.

Mine are about 5 years old now too. I was thinking of getting them repaired as there are a few ebayers (with good feedback) who offer repair services for £12 plus the initial cost of posting it to them but I figured that 5 years is actually quite old for an electrical appliance so if I can get £25 for the old ones then a brand new pair will only cost around £65.

I also found one of the repairerers that offers flat rates for purchasing old faulty ones (£25 for 3.1b models) so no need to faff around on ebay and be scammed/risk negative feedback so if you don't get any joy repairing yours there's always that option.

Sounds like a break in the cable...should be a easy fix for a competent repairer.

Rather than go through the hassle of listing on ebay I found an ebay seller/buyer who has a set price structure for 'recycling' GHD's.

There was an 'info' listing for £1, when you purchase it he emails the address to send them to, he then refunds the original £1 and pays the set amount into your paypal account. I posted my faulty mk 3.1b GHD's on Monday and had received the promised £25 and £1 refund in my paypal account by today - Wednesday :T
