Is it worth appealing? Help would be appreciative :)

My girlfriend today applied for a credit card as another means to establish a good credit record with multiple active and satisfactory accounts.

She applied for a Barclaycard Initial Credit Card, which states quite clearly it is "best suited for people with limited credit history, on the electoral register and earning £10,000 or more".
Start with a low managable limit etc. She was declined.

She is 19, had credit for about 8 months now (well for 10 months but the last two haven't been updated on Experian yet) She has a recent (last two months) capital one initial credit card (again the one to build up credit) with a £100 limit, the balance is only at £40 and registered at that with Experian (she signed up to see her report).

She has two mobile phone contracts zero balance on both.

She has a store card with new look at £34 balance and the limit £125.

All accounts have between 6 to 8 months history and run satisfactory, no missed payments, late payments etc nothing to suspect she isn't building up a good credit profile

She is on the electoral register and only had one search for credit in the past six months. Been in full time employment for well over one year with a steady income and yes it is over the required £10,000.

Experian says only using 35% of available credit and total credit available is only £225. Hardly in debt or beyond her means?

Her credit rating was 776 out of 100, 3 stars out of 5 on call credit. Did this free on a trial that included the score and since cancelled as not paying an extra £5.95 for the score on Experian, especially when it's said much on here that it is garbage and nothing to do by.

She is not exactly disappointed, it's nothing major, she is already establishing a good history as above but why has she been declined? This seemed like a good card for her, limited history no problems etc. It just seems very weird. Anyone else had or know anyone who's strangely been declined for what seems as a new to credit, credit-building card when they haven't had any problems or been declined before?

Most importantly, is it worth appealing with a copy of this report just to say "hey, there is nothing wrong with my report whatsoever and I meet the criteria at least that you've given and I am as creditworthy as I can get at this moment". See what happens?
I have worked at HSBC Bank in various departments both customer facing and process-related for six years. However, any advice given is my own.

I suggest its limited history still, barclaycard initial is the higher end of the sub-prime market..

Also they will take her age into account aswell,i don't know if anyone else will agree ,but i suggest she also apply for the vanquis card if accepted keep paying on time for the next 12-18 months, then you will have an established history on your report.

Basically just keep building up your history.

best give it a bit more time

hopefully she pays her credit card and store card in full each month
presumably she is on the electoral roll
and she doesn't use an Overdraft

I'd second the Vanquis card - it seems to have a higher acceptance rate. That said, it also has a MUCH higher interest rate so you really DO need to keep on top of repayments and clear it in full each month!

    Best of luck! :)
