Hey,
I'm in need of some advice, i was brought a digital camera for Christmas last year by my dad. The camera broke whilst on holiday last week so is still under warranty, however i don't have any proof of purchase and can't ask my dad for a bank statement as he passed away in march, is there anyway i can still get it sorted through argos or is it fit for the bin. I really hope i don't have to bin it as its a brill little camera.
Many Thanks

Unfortunately chances are there is nothing we can do, most cameras can be purchased from pretty much anywhere and you will need to satisfy the store you take it back to that you purchased it from Argos. Do you not have the box or anything still?
You can also try sending it to the manufacturer, what make is the camera by the way?0 -
the camera was a argos exclusive and no i threw the box out but still have the cd-roms which i know can't prove it, i know i don't have much hope but wanted to check first
sorry i forgot to add that its a fuji finepix j320 -
If it's an Argos exclusive they can't really deny it was bought from there. Worth a try, be assertive, explain the situation, the staff aren't that motivated (!). They might offer vouchers rather than a refund.0

Aside from it being STOLEN from there.
Proof of purchase is a reasonable request. You will have to try your luck with being polite, stranger things have happened.
I have found Argos to be completely hit and miss, some stores great, other staffed with retail mini-hitlers.
Good luck.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
But not by the OP, which is the point. The OP was not the consumer so has no consumer rights. If it's an Argos exclusive they can't really deny it was bought from there. Try the manufacturer direct, but bear in mind they may also require proof of purchase.0 -
I can sympathise, when my father passed away I inherited his car understandably couldnt get his signature on the V5 for the DVLA, but one polite covering letter from explaining the situation and the DVLA sympathetically dealt with it and sent me a letter of condolence back which was nice.
If you dont get anywhere with Argos staff speak to a manager explain what has happened. If that doesnt get you anywhere try speaking to Fuji themselves again explaining what has happened I have dealt with them myself when my camera broke and my insurance company were being slow and found them very pleasant to deal with. (helpful too lol)
Hope this helps0 -
Thank you for all the ideas im going to have a go thats all i can do hopefully they fix it, as i really love my camera.
many thanks

I think a polite approach goes a long way, depends who you end up asking, and the manager of that particular store. You have nothing to loose by going in when its not busy, and honestly explaining your genuine situation.
A few years ago we were on holiday in Devon and my hair straighteners broke, I had just bought them from my local Argos.
Not wanting frizzy hair all holiday, we nipped into the Argos in Exeter. I explained I was miles away from home, uncertain about simply buying another pair from them in case my local argos insisted on a replacement (leaving me with two straighteners!). The outcome was, without any reciept, it was exchanged with a smile, and a 'enjoy the rest of your holiday!' smile. I was eternally grateful!
But in recent years shops have got more strict with returns. One reason is the scam of buying stuff from car boots/ebay and then taking them to a retailers without reciepts for a refund/credit vouchers.
The other thing I have seen on a few threads like this before with argos and cameras, (even with reciepts) is that they say the fault is due to the camera being dropped, but thats depends on the type of fault your camera has.

I have the same camera, it is a fantastic little machine!
However, it is not an Argos exclusive, and if it was it's not anymore, they're available on Amazon too.[DISCLAIMER: Any posts made by myself are my opinions and do not represent my employer]
God put me on Earth to acomplish a certain number of things.
Right now I am so far behind I will probably never be allowed to die!0 -
I would go into the store that it was bought from. If purchased online, I would ring customer service up, and say it was a present, under a year old.
In my experience, Argos have always exchanged. I last took a cookworks (argos own brand) slow cooker in, as the ceramic pot had a crack in it. I didn't have my reciept, but they knew it was an own brand, and could see that I hadn't dropped it, so promptly exchanged.
Perhaps I'm lucky enough to have good stores near me. If you know the date of purchase, or if your dad reserved it, they may have a record of it.0
