My photo's are gone!

I have just been on holiday and took 150 photos with my Canon A70 camera ( 256mb CompactFlash memory card).
The other day the batteries went dead in the middle of taking a photo. I have just put new batteries in and all my 150 photos are gone.
There is no way I can get them back is there? I haven't deleted them but I suppose the A70 did it when the batteries failed. Would it be worth buying a card reader?

I recovered deleted files from a memory card by using a card reader and PC Inspector. Some were corrupt but I got some back. I would try the software suggested first though if you can get a trial of it.0 -
Depending upon the type of card you have, Ebuyer.com were selling card readers (internal one's to fit in a floppy drive slot) for £3 or £4. Doesn't look great but does the job.0

as bossyboots suggested, a card reader and this might help.

(it's free)Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
worry not you will get most - if not all back.
There are a couple of freebies on computer magazines this month about recovering deleted software, sorry can't remember which ones.
Try not to do anything with the card at the moment until you have tried recovery software.
Same thing happened to a friend and I used a couple of software verisons and she got all but 6 of her 120 pictures back. I have on on my pc at home and if you pm me I'll get you details later. We all evolve - get on with it0 -
I gave my brother my canon ixusx the other day with 3 compact flash memory cards. I formatted them all 6 times to make sure there was nothing on the cards. I then used the pcinspector software and it recovered all the pics all the time. So fingers crossed you should get yours back
I have nothing better to do!!!!

Wow thanks everyone for some fantastic advice.
I will get a card reader and let you know the outcome.0 -
That's weird, as (please correct me if I am wrong) the CF memory, as the name suggests is a flash card, so is not reliant on the battery??
I'd be tempted to see if (now don't laugh):
1 - the card was still in the camera
2 - the camera could 'see' the card, as it were.0 -

yes this is true, but if the batteries went flat whilst storing an image to the card, it may have caused a corruption on the card which meant the camera can no longer correctly read the card,
which is why the above suggestions have been mentioned0 -

Can assure you the card was still in the camera and the camera could see the card. I took it out and put it back in just to make sure. I have also got a 16mb card that came with the camera which works ok!
Hope to get a card reader tommorow....I am keeping everything crossed!0
