Can I claim anything on my travel insurance?

So I was walking on holiday, in France, when I managed to break a couple of bones in my foot. No-one's fault - I stumbled a few times walking along a path. However, it was halfway through my holiday and pretty much ruined the next week of holiday for me and my boyfriend.

I went to hospital the next day and had it checked out. The bill from that has come through and I'm hoping I can get that back from the NHS...it was around 50 euros. I also spent loads on taxis, and a bit on prescriptions (cheaper than UK prescription charge!). I also got a pair of crutches (25 euros) and managed somehow to hobble back by train and eurostar. I have reciepts for prescriptions etc but not taxis.

Therefore there's not really masses to claim as additional expenses - because I'm good and put up with a horrible journey back (and have a lovely partner who carried my bag etc). But it totally spoilt half my holiday!

So my question is this: will my travel insurance (with Lloyds) pay me anything for this at all? Or do I just have to accept that my holiday wasn't really a holiday?

I didn't call the insurance company on holiday as I was just trying to cope with getting from A to B...

Thanks :):(

Check your policy. Some policies only require you to contact them if medical bills are over a certain amount.

If you are asking if you can claim for "loss of enjoyment" then no, that it's covered.

Do you have an EHIC? You could have used that to get treatment and if you paid, can claim it back via the EHIC website.
  • As far as my understanding goes, travel insurance covers medical expenses and financial (such as money invested in nonrefundable pre-payments) and other losses incurred while travelling , either within one's own country, or internationally.

Now what is covered or not depends on your policy document as in what you insurer has covered.
