Got an Sony HDD DVD recorder which has an EPG so I can just press a button and it will record the programms of my choice. However, I've found that with some programmes it turns off before the programms has finished ( last night I watched "Wire in the Bood" and missed the flipping end!!) I've noticed that it is always ITV & other commercial channels that it happens to, and my theory is that these channels transmit their programms a few minutes late so you turn on your TV or recorder at 9pm, and then you have to watch the commercials . But this means my recorder switches off at 10pm, and I miss the end. How can I stop this happening? I've searched the manual , but no help there

this has been hapening on my sky + box as well,
is there a setting for the record function where you can change the amount of minutes it records at the start and finish of a programme, my was set to Auto but have changed to five minutes now, this should ensure if a programme starts a couple of minutes late you should catch everything0 -
I have a Sony HDD DVD machine too and I always programme the timers manually to give some overlap. I've been burned too many times using the ShowView (and also with the PDC for VCR recordings from another tv).
It's a very simple procedure...it really only takes just a few more seconds than punching in one reference number.
In my manual it's indexed under T Timer Recording/Manual Setting.
On the actual page it is titled Timer Recording (Standard/Showview).
Hope that helps?0 -
might be worthwhile checking what the time setting is in your clock? is it 5 minutes fast? this may sound stupid but a lot of sites when you enter and post etc the posting times will coincide with the time you have set on your clock and not what the actual gmt time is. so this may have an effect that the epg is reading the clock time on your hdd.

Thanks folks, the clock is correct on the DVD, I had thought it may be that, but I actually checked one programme that I recorded, ie, what time it came on, and it was 3 minutes past the scheduled time. I know if I use VideoPlus, it will only start recording when the transmitter signal is turned on, and I thought Guideplus operated the same, but never mind, I'll just have to use videoplus for ITV programmes.
