I have to turn my off whenever the phone is in use. I also unplug it overnight and if going out , it's safe and doesn't cause any damage.

I've been told that before but i've all the normal filters and bought a new one last month (my pc fell on me , i'm very clumsy) so I think it's due to having a sub standard line:mad:

I never turn my routers off(2 of them). Got them in a boiler cupard :P along with a NAS, And like 10 cables coming out the cupard going in all different directions LOL.

Got 2 main sockets with 2 RJ45 cables running to the cupard with another 2 sockets with the RJ45 used as extension. Quite awkward to get routers where my main socket is.

p.s thought i would share since everyone else is.

Do you know how I can check speed?
The speed tester that's usually recommended is the Think Broadband one. There is also a BT speed tester. Some of the other testers can give unusual and amusing results, e.g. the one that told me that I was getting a download speed of over 20 Mbps on my 10 Mbps cable line!

If you just have a bog standard adsl connection then you should be okay turning your router/modem off at bedtime/overnight but don't switch it off/on a number of times within short intervals or it will affect your IP/bRas Profile which will result in lower speeds.

Also turn it back on before 10am in the morning.
  • I don't turn mine off so I can leave it downloading !!!!!! over night :D
Nothing to see here, move along.

You can turn your router off as much as you like, you only need to keep it on constantly for 10 days of the training process.
