How does MS affect your ability to do day-to day activities such as communicating, walking, getting dressed, etc.?

This is where it's complicated as the symptoms are intermittent. So there are good days and bad days.

From someone who has MS and has had to give up work, I get ESA and DLA.

My illness ended my working ability (for the time being) and so prior to giving up work i enquired into ESA, would i be eligible etc, the answer came back for me as a yes.

I did apply for DLA as having to give up work, struggling with mobility to the point of needing assistance in walking, i couldn't walk unaided, loosing my hearing in my right ear, made me a walking wreck, i didn't know and still don't know where noises are coming from.

Having to have people look after me was a big low point in my life, i used to be very independent, and do things when i want to, well that's all gone out the window now, i have to wait for help from others, even taking a shower :(

give DIAL a call, explain to them what you think your needs are, and they can help you see if you do need to apply for DLA.

It isn't a question of just giving up work and living off benefits (ok yes i know i do) unless you have to.

I would love not to be in the position i am in. :(

Muppette I feel your pain hun, I am the same but for different health issues, I would give anything to not be on benefits and go back to working a full week and having energy for more than an hour a day. Hugs, I honestly believe that I will get better and I hope you will do aswell.

OP as has been said you need to assess your care/mobility needs. I am the same as you, some days are good, some are bad. The bad days unfortunately outweigh the good days. If you do decide to claim DLA then give the welfare rights a call, they were fantastic in helping me to get DLA. Good luck
