My condolences to johnwallace, it is an awful thing to happen.

I know that the NHS doesnt have endless resources, and that some people will disagree with me on this but I have to say it - if in doubt then seek some medical attention, even if it seems like 'just a cold',

If it's just a cold, they can't do anything anyway and you're better off just going to the chemist.

Quite shocked at this thread. Enough for me to log in and post.

What a wonderful display you've all put on. Congratulations.

My sincerest condolences are conveyed to the OP. Nothing I can say can even begin to console. All you need know is that there's another human being out there who speaks out.

Bit over the top. Have you actually read the thread from the start?

How awful of us all to debate on using free prescriptions for cold medicines instead of just using our precognitive abilities to diagnose the OP's wife's true illness.
Frankly, I'm disgusted with the lot of us.

    Wrong! This is why.

Watch this space for the OP complaining that their GP has told them to go register with another Doctors for his wife being abusive towards the Doc.
GP don't do that. They are subtle and have other tricks in their bags so they don't actually have to say it :(

  • I can understand there are some strong feelings on this subject but on the subject of going to the docs for something not serious, you cant always be sure that its not

My dad went to the docs with leg pain andd waas roundly told off by the doctor and told it was sciatica or age.

2 weeks later he returned at my mothers insistence - he was sent straight to hospital and a few weeks later underwent a bypass - the pain in his legs was caused by the arterial blockage.

Whilst I admit I still shy from going to the doctors unless desperate - I think that you cant always judge others for doing it - they know their body and know if it may be something more serious

hope your wife is feeling better now

hope your wife is feeling better now

You have read all the posts in this thread? I doubt she is feeling better as according to the OP a couple of posts back she died.

Still does not change the fact that she was demanding something that is OTC on prescription just so she did not have to pay and was rude to the doctor. The OP never mentioned that she was terminal ill even so that does not give anyone the right to be rude to anyone.

My husband has a pre-paid certificate and it never cross his mind to get paracetamol for free they only cost 20p a packet. And only needs them once in a blue moon when he has a headache.
