Over Payment

Options
Hi,
I have two credit cards (Capital one, and Vanquis) my capital one card has a 1,500 limit, my Vanquis one has a 2,250 limit. I would like to make a purchase that is higher than my card limit, would i be able to over pay on my card so i have a positive balance?? and then use the card to make the purchase? Around 3k?

Thanks

    Don't think you can

Can the product be purchased using both cards? I know you can always pay part cash part card so is that an option?

I've read that credit card companies really hate positive balances

  • No, in general you can't and you'll probably find the T+Cs forbid it. If you try it, it might work or you might find the positive balance gets suspended and is unavailable for spending.

They do this for regulatory reasons - they are not supposed to take deposits on these accounts and there is money laundering risk. That said, inevitability people do end up with positive balances sometimes - perhaps because of credits after they've paid for something.

Either you have to ask for a limit rise, or try and and split the transaction across both cards.
