Anyone used them?---CRAWFORD from UK Assistance

our flat got burgled on Tue. night, scumbags took 2 laptops & loads of my partner's jewelleries worth more than £4000, reported to the police straightaway, then reported to direct line the next morning, who appointed UK Assistance to come and look at the claim.

Just spoke UK Assistance said they haven't got someone to cover the area, so they've appointed another company called Crawford (not sure if this is the right spelling) 0870 3820340 to deal with this claim, who will be in touch tomorrow.

has anyone dealt with this company (Crawford) before? how long does it usually take for direct line to settle the claim? we've kept most of the receipts, and some pictures showing she's worn them.
what else do i need to prepared?

thank you

Crawfords are a large loss adjusting company, who have agents all around the country.

As long as the claim is all ok and the adjuster recommends settlement, then the claim should be settled within 2 months at the most. The Insurers could opt to arrange replacement for those items that can be replaced and cash settlement for those that can't.

Make sure the value of the claim and the current value of items in the flat, tally with the Contents sum insured that you have. If you have had a £5k loss and have say £15k worth of Contents left in the flat, you should have £20k sum Insured. If the Contents sum Insured is found to be inadequate, they could reduce the settlement.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.
  • Crawfords are a nightmare they will do anything to not payout see my thread about them https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/1662069

I would recommend you engage your own management company to deal with them, it costs more but will save you money in the long run. I just gave up fighting them in the end and settled at a much lower amount than I was due as they just wore me down and it was all starting to make me ill.

When I was involved in a car accident earlier this year Crawfords were acting on behalf of the third party.

My side of things was handled by AI Claims Solutions.

In the end my own insurers were being so obstructive that I called Crawfords myself, the chap I spoke to couldn't have been more helpful and arranged a payment to be sent to me within 24 hours!

As long as the item you get from Samuel is substantially the same quality and value as the one from CHANEL what difference does it make? I don't think that "snobbery value" is a common consideration when quantifying a loss.

And nothing the industry tries do to us surprises me any more!
