It is in their house prices part. A list of what houses have sold for in the past. I am not bothered about it being listed as Semi. What I am worried about is if the council think it is a semi, and then discover it is in fact a detached, will it effect my council tax?

I would hope not, but these website must get their details from somewhere, so I assume it is listed semi in some official documents.

  • OK now that's clear. I can see it might be a bit of a nuisance. I don't think it should affect your council tax though.

So in a previous sale, either EA or solicitor has described it as a semi and this has been propogated to zoopla, mouseprice, etc. ......

No, the council won't be basing the council tax on any of these.... but if they did think you were a semi, wouldn't you be paying less?
  • There are no official definitions of these terms so I can't see the point of getting steamed up about it.

No estate agent worth his salt is going to take too much notice of these listings without knowing the character of the properties in question - the listings might tell him that 77 Some Street sold for £xxx, xxx but he would drive down Some Street to see the kind of house it was if he was using this data to price a nearby property.

You can email land registry and tell them its classified wrongly, just point out the houses on either side are detached so yours can't be attached to anything. They will change their database and it will eventually feed through to the other websites.

  • I live in a detached ground floor flat with my own roof space. My garage is semi-detached.
