BT duped me into 12 month contract

    Fine, so if you had a dial tone there is no charge. That was all I was trying to establish. There was ambiguity because your original post said that the line needed 'hooking up'-which implied reconnection.
    Nevertheless a new contract for line rental involves a minimum 12m term contract. If you can prove that you were told otherwise then you have a case for claiming mis-selling.
    No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
