I live in a flood warning area, due to a local brook and I am able to obtain some quotes through comparison sites. Some companies on the list won't quote. You still have to be careful in reading the declaration and assumptions for quote on the Insurers site, to make sure you have given accurate information.

If you are finding that they won't quote, it could be that the postcode is recognised as being a high flood risk area.

My suggestion would be to contact a local Insurance broker, who should know which Insurers will quote.

Its the assumptions that are a problem, go compare just assume you are not a flood risk area.

I am checking the halifax now as they quoted on compare the market but on their own website they dont mention flood risk or being near a watercourse - we are both :( - so I am phoning them now.

Funny that you mention Halifax. I to could see no mention of flooding at all on their website when I last looked at them. I have just done a quick check, still nothing is shown. They must go by the postcode to see whether it is a flood risk or not.

Let us know, what the outcome of the call is.

I phoned halifax as they were one of the insurers who quoted when I ticked with 400m of water on compare the markets. Told them we were near water and on a flood plain, quote is £239 AND £50 cash back so they are £280 cheaper than our current renewal quote from hsbc. Interest free payments too.
