Virgin Holiday with Clubcard Vouchers/ flight upgrade ?

I have twice been on hols with Clubcard vouchers - XL & Cosmos both holidays paid for entirely with vouchers. This time I want to part pay a Virgin Hols trip to New York & add in an upgrade on the flights. As both the holiday prices & the upgrade costs change almost daily online does anyone know if they honour the web price for holidays & upgrades on that day, or are upgrades always priced at a certain cost for Tesco customers ?
Yesterday the upgraded flight price was just over £400 per person today it's almost £700 each so just wanted to know if I book on a day that the upgrade price is lower online, will it be honoured ?
I am assuming the prices are somehow related to the Virgin Atlantic flight/upgrade costs although the companys are run individually. I am aware I will not get a discount on the web price for the holiday & that I can only use £1400 of vouchers.

  • yes, sorry maybe I did not make it clear, but I can use them to pay for the trip which costs approx £2000 without the upgrades, so the trip will be approx £600 ( with vouchers off ) plus the cost of the upgrade so the cheaper I can get it the better.

    The price you pay Virgin Holidays when using the clubcard vouchers is the brochure price not the online price.

    you have to ring the number, that is listed on the clubcard page for virgin deals for a price

    you will have to pay brochure price for the holiday and upgrades - brochure price is usually around £300pp more than the online price, and upgrades will be nearer £500pp

    Check your holiday price on the internet if possible this is the price you pay but add the discount back in. This price flucuates but the price you book on the day is the price they will honour as you pay a deposit and then send your deals vouchers in (must be changed up prior to booking).

    As for being able to pay part of the upgrade price in deals i am not entirely sure some will let you some wont. But the maximium value you can redeem in vouchers is £700 per person travelling and in my experiance you have normally spent this before looking at PE seats.

    This is not what the guy on the phone at Virgin just told me, he said the website uses a "Cheaper database" and that holidays can only be booked with vouchers on the brochure price... Should I argue the toss with them or get a supervisor?

    When we have booked, we have always (as said by zorber) paid the internet price with the discount added back in. The prices do fluctuate. As for any upgrades, we have always had to pay them blind, as upper class upgrades are not always listed. But the main holiday price has always been that of the internet price before any discounts.

    If you call the dedicated Tesco Clubcard number for Virgin, you will get someone to quote you.

    Agreed that the price is the internet price with the discount added back on. The 'brochure' price is usually out of date as soon as it is printed. As an example we flew to Bali in 2009 using £1200+ Tesco vouchers towards the cost. The cost we were quoted was several hundred pounds cheaper than the price appearing in the brochure for the same holiday.

    I don't bother with a dedicated Tesco clubcard phone number for Virgin; anyone in their sales department should be able to help you - just inform them you wish to use vouchers towards the cost.

    Ok well I called them and got 2 different people to confirm this. I'm looking at a holiday to Florida for 2 people and on the web it's £1655 with a £61.95 online discount, so in theory they should be charging me £1717, which I would be happy with.

    However both agents quoted me £2010.

    I got really stroppy with the second agent and demanded to know the reason that it's £300 more expensive to book with Clubcard vouchers and they told me that the online price is a special offer price and they can't offer special offer prices to people using Clubcard vouchers.

    Now it does say "WAS 968 per person" on the holiday I'm looking at, so presumably that's the price before the January sale discount but after the online discount, so MY price is 1005 per person, which would be about correct based on removing the online discount from the "WAS" price...

    If you phone up and book over the phone NOT using Clubcard vouchers you get offered the holiday at the sale price, £1717.

    I'm not sure there's anything they can do at Virgin but we're very disappointed to be cheated out of the sale price just because we're using Tesco vouchers.

    Given that we're getting a worse deal using vouchers which is not explained in the Ts and Cs of the vouchers do you think we can take this to trading standards? :mad:
