Very Worried Student! {Natwest}

I was interested in opening a student account with Natwest so, I phoned my local branch (in the west midlands). The lady I spoke to said I could fill out most of my application on the phone, and then she put me through to some representative in Leicester who took down all my details from name; address; previous banks I've been with (no bank details, though); phone number; and other things. He said I would get some paper work within the next week, which I should bring into my local branch.
There were also a lot of terms&conditions to accept, although I did not listen/understand most of them, but I accepted, anyway
I am very new to opening banks by myself, and my guardian said it was very strange that I had to enclose so much information over the phone.
I wanted to ask: is this normal? Sorry, if it sounds silly, I'm just so worried!

If I remember correctly, my Natwest Student account came as a result of a long-winded terms and conditions speech too.
I could barely understand what the person was saying... something to the tune of "If you spend 1p more than the agreed overdraft amount, we'll be 'round to collect your soul."
I switched my account on the Natwest website before speaking to anyone though. Have you checked your account online? My regular current account changed it's name to STUDENT/GRADUATE when I clicked on the account details, this happened a few days after applying for the new account.
Hope this helps.0 -

Thanks for the replyWell, I don't have an account with them yet. They said I'll get some paperwork within the next week, which I should fill out and bring into my nearest branch, and then everything will be completed.
But, at the end of the conversation, it just seemed like I had given out all my personal information to a random person on the phone. And was wondering whether these "application over the phone," are real? No fraud, or anything. Hopefully, I'm just being paranoid.0 -
Applications over the phone are perfectly real, yes, as long as you phoned the bank (i.e. it was a legit number) you have nothing to worry about.0

Oh yes, sorry I misread the first sentence.
I know how you feel, when ever I call up my credit card companies I freeze when the automated voice asks me to tap in every single detail. For me, banking over the phone feels very dodgy.
I must say Natwest made the application process very straight forward.
I applied for my 16-25 railcard via the Natwest website after I was sent the passcode. I uploaded my photo and received the card in a few days.0
