I went to view the first house I bought the day after boxing day.

I'm currently looking to move house. I don't think seasons come into it if you've made a decision to move.
I can't be bothered updating this anymore
  • I bought my latest house in winter, because that's when I needed a house.

Prices are significantly cheaper up here every winter, but there is also a lot less choice.

A friend of mine put her house on the market last December. There were several viewings in the first week and one went on to buy.
We moved into our first house in December after making an offer in September (I think?-a long time ago).
A few years later we sold in late November after putting our house on the market in May. We house hunted over the winter and moved into our new house in April.
It's taking me far longer than I thought to get my house ready to put on the market, still not there, but as soon as it's presentable, I'll put it up for sale.
  • SURELY.....there must be some Monthly statistics on this somewhere....so we can see what the trend is for the past couple of years???

Must admit.... as a novice ...its something I never considered. Its a house..... not an ice lolly!!
  • We offered on the house we're in now last November and moved in in February this year, we had been looking for a year so started our search the previous November when our own house was on the Market. We viewed a lot of houses quite a few of which were snapped up all through the winter months

The trend will only give you an "average". It will not say that YOUR house won't sell at a specific time.

I'm currently looking for a plot or a home... and I'll keep looking until I find one. The time of year is irrelevant to me.
  • We viewed our current house in late November (after it had been on the market only a few weeks) and completed in January. We put our previous property on the market in April but lost 2 sales before completing in late December. We didn't have the choice to stop looking just because it was Winter - we needed somewhere to live!

  • I'm looking right now and will keep looking through winter.

A lot of people have mentioned that they don't want to view a house in the winter because of the weather. I just don't understand that. Surely it make sense to view in the winter to check for leaks / damp / how cold the house gets etc. If someone takes their house off the market during winter I would have to wonder what they are trying to hide.
  • We took an offer on our house end November then I put an offer in on our new home 23rd December and we moved in on 12th February. It was heavy going pushing all the solicitors and EA's etc but worthwhile.
:o Trying to become debt free but this site makes me spend a fortune!!! :o
