Hi guys

When I boot my PC I get a message about which OS to use (XP or previous) Is there any way to turn this off?

what does your c:\boot.ini look like?

that would suggest you have to OS's on your system and you get to choose which to boot to. why not uninstall the old one?

If you have two operating system on there, then de-install one. If it is some throwback from the past, just edit the c:\boot.ini file to remove one of the entries or at the very least (if that scares you) to reduce the amount of time to select the default.

Here is my boot.ini, with 30 seconds and just 1 operating system.

timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

I've always had XP installed but have reinstalled it serveral times (probs wrong) I cant locate boot.ini on my C:\ to change it from read only

To see boot.ini, in Windows Explorer, click Tools - Folder Options - View tab - in Advanced settings untick 'Hide protected operating system files' - OK.

............or go Start --> Control Panel --> System, click the 'Advanced' tab then select 'Startup and Recovery Settings' and click on 'Edit' under System Startup.
